This is a handmade tanto from Ab Sword, forged with T10 high carbon steel.
We follow Ab Sword’s original 12-step forging process: material selection โ laminated assembly โ initial heating โ first forging weld โ two rounds of folded forging โ rough shape forging โ heat treatment quenching โ initial grinding โ steam treatment โ mirror polishing โ final edge sharpening and inspection. every step is done by hand.
The blade features a traditional clay tempering treatment, which produces a natural hamon line along the edge. it’s full tang construction for solid strength. the double bohi (fuller) design reduces weight without throwing off the balance, so it sits comfortably in one hand.
key details:
- tsuba (hand guard): alloy with silver plating, carved with a crane motif
- habaki: custom-fit solid copper, soft enough not to damage the blade edge
- handle: silver menuki matching the tsuba, wrapped over genuine black samegawa (ray skin) with black silk tsuka-ito in the tsumami-ito style. secured with a mekugi peg for easy disassembly and maintenance. the grip is solid and non-slip.
- saya: solid wood lacquered bright red, painted with cranes, flowers and a fairy motif. finished with black and red silk sageo.
