This Tanto sword is hand-forged using 1060 high carbon steel, ensuring a durable and sharp blade. The entire blade has undergone heat treatment and oil quenching, enhancing its strength and edge retention. Notably, the blade features grooves (bo-hi) on both sides, not only reducing weight but also providing audible feedback when swung. The blade is meticulously hand-polished, achieving a smooth and mirror-like surface.
The SAYA (sheath) of the sword is crafted from hard wood with a striking black high-gloss finish. Sageo (cord) has been expertly tied around the bright copper Kurigaga (knob) of the scabbard, adding to the sword’s overall aesthetic. The Koiguchi (scabbard mouth) has been hardened for added durability.
The tsuba (guard) of the Tanto is made from alloy and features an elegant Sakura motif, adding a touch of sophistication to the design. The tsuka (handle) is constructed from wood and is wrapped with white genuine samegawa ray skin. The alloy Sakura-themed fuchi (sleeve) and kashira (buttcap), along with alloy dragon menuki (ornaments), further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the sword. The tsuka is securely fastened with two bamboo mekugi pins.
