This Katana boasts a blade that is a true work of art. It’s made of folded steel with an impressive 13 times folding, resulting in a stunning 8192 layers. This meticulous folding process enhances both the flexibility and hardness of the blade. The blade comes with full tang and a chu-kissaki (medium point). It has been thoroughly refined and tempered, with a special clay application by hand. This unique process involves applying a thin clay covering near the edge and a thicker layer over the rest of the blade. It allows for differential cooling during quenching, creating a hard edge and a softer back. The beautiful real hamon (temper line) on the blade is a testament to this meticulous craftsmanship.
The Dragon design Tsuba (guard) of the sword is meticulously crafted from brass, adding a touch of elegance to the sword. The Habaki (blade collar) is a one-piece brass construction, securing the blade. Two Seppas (spacers) further secure the Tsuba. The Tsuka (handle) of the sword is a work of art itself, constructed from white genuine Ray skin Samegawa wrapped by black silk ito (handle wrap) in katatemaki style. It is firmly secured by two bamboo Mekugi (pins).
The saya (scabbard) is a striking black high-gloss finish with a hand-carved dragon pattern, adding to the sword’s aesthetic appeal. Black synthetic Sage-O has been expertly tied around the bright copper Kurigaga (knob) of the scabbard. The Koiguchi (scabbard mouth) has been hardened to ensure durability.
