This Shirasaya sword features a clay-tempered folded Damascus steel full tang blade. The folded steel construction gives the blade exceptional hardness and flexibility, resulting in a high-quality sword with both strength and durability. The steel undergoes meticulous refinement and tempering, with a special clay application process by hand. This process involves applying a thin layer near the edge and a thicker layer over the rest of the blade. The sword boasts a chu-kissaki (medium-length) tip and a specially treated black blade, which effectively prevents rusting. The black color is long-lasting and will not fade unless the blade is re-polished. Notably, this sword is designed without a tsuba (guard). Both the handle and saya are crafted from black hardwood.
