During the forging process, a special clay is applied to the blade by hand. This intricate technique involves a thin covering near the edge and a thicker layer over the rest of the blade, resulting in differential cooling during quenching. The outcome is a hardened edge and a softer back, showcasing the stunning real hamon pattern, achieved through the art of quenching and tempering.
To achieve a mirror-like surface, the blade undergoes meticulous hand polishing with multiple-grade sharpening stones.
